"Outdoor Games in the Sunshine!"
Make the most of sunny days - Outdoor Games in your own back yard.
All you need is a box of fat chalks and a few square metres of concrete/patio area outside, and you can play a number of outdoor games on your own or with friends.
Hopscotch:
Hopscotch is a very old traditional game and it's possible your mum, dad or other older relative will know how to play! Draw big squares on the ground and number them like this:

Now, from an easy distance, throw a flat stone gently to land on square number one. Then jump over square number one to land with one foot on square number 2 and one foot on square number 3. Then hop onto square number 4 then jump with both feet to land on squares 5 and 6, and so on up to number 10. When you land on the Queen and King squares at the top, turn and jump at the same time, then hop and jump back to squares 2 and 3. Pick up your stone, hop onto square number one and jump off. Now let someone else have a go! Next time it's your turn, you have to throw the stone on to the number 2 square. That means you hop onto square number one, then hop onto number 3 and number 4 on the way to the Queen and King squares. On the way back, stop on number 3 to pick up your stone, hop onto number 1 and jump off! If you miss the square you need when you throw your stone, the other player or players have their turn. Make sure you choose a nice flat stone to avoid it rolling away. The first player back from collecting his or her stone from the King's square wins the game.

Outdoor Games - Boxes:
A bigger version of the indoor rainy day game and a much quieter outdoor game than most! Draw 6 lines of 6 dots with your chalk on the ground. Use the paving slabs if you have them to mark off your dots. Otherwise get someone to hold a straight length of wood or card while you mark 6 dots along it's length onto the ground. Each player in turn joins just two dots to form one side of a square. When a player draws the final side of a square, he or she writes their initial in the square and has another turn. Play until all the boxes have been drawn, then add up the initials in the boxes. The player with his or her initial in the most boxes is the winner. Twist and Tangle:
Another version of an indoor game - only playable on a very dry day! You will need chalks and a dice for each player. With your chalks draw out a playing area on the ground like this:

Mark 2 shapes with a number 1, 2 shapes with a number 2, and so on up to number 6.Each player has his or her dice and throws in turn. The number you throw is the number shape you have to get to. There are two possible versions of this game: 1. Players jump onto shape with the number of the dice thrown, or 2. Place a foot or a hand on the right numbered shape, each time you throw the dice. The game ends when all players are too tangled up to move! Keep your chalks safely indoors when you've finished with them. The next rainfall will wash your outdoor games away, and you'll need the chalks to re-draw them.
Have Fun!
