Encourage them with different ideas... Many children have never experienced the thrill of the hula hoop for example.

*Play a gentler garden version of rounders, or baseball. Use a soft ball for tinies! *Place a tub of water in the centre of the outdoor party game area. Each player in turn tries to throw the ball into the tub. Levels of difficulty can be varied. The grown-ups may have to throw from next door for example! *Play 'piggy in the middle': Two players throw the ball to each other and one player stands between them trying to catch the ball as it goes past. If the 'piggy in the middle' succeeds, he/she swaps places with the player who failed to catch the ball. *On a still day, create a 'net' by stretching a line of rope across playing area. Use a balloon or beach ball or other very light ball, and play handball. Players have to use their hands to hit the ball over the net. When the ball hits the ground the team who let it fall lose a point - i'e the other team are one point up.
This game can be played in teams or individually; by toddlers or grown-ups.
*Think up any number of outdoor party games with tubs of water, beach balls, plastic hoops, and even bean bags!
None of these will cost much money, and the imagination of all will be stirred into life!
