"Lawn Clover Unveiled!"

For years lawn growers have struggled with intrusive lawn clover in their neat and tidy lawns.

-and children have searched for four leaved clovers for centuries!

When you start growing your lawn, make sure you buy a good grass seed.

There are a couple of online suppliers on this page.. Garden Lawns and during the first few months of growth, check for weeds every day.

ONLY let the grass grow!

After that, you must trust to luck or specialized lawn products to remove lawn clover.
Gardens Alive have some wonderful organic lawn care products that will help feed the grass NOT the weeds.

Now I'm going to turn the problem on it's head!

For the past few years, there has been a strong move towards preserving wildlife, including wildflowers and their natural environments.

More and more lawns are being turned over to clover now..the benefits?

Less mowing - less petrol, energy, time and exercise.

Clover doesn't grow much higher than 6 inches usually.

Visually Pleasing

Clover tends to stay a deep green colour even during the driest of summers. And it flowers too!

For UK deliveries of clover try

Crocus UK type 'clover' ( without the quotes ) into the search box on their homepage and find a couple of varieties.

White clover is very pretty on a large lawn space and will stay lush and green throughout the year. Cut just before flowering if you want to avoid the bees, but if you can leave the flowers to grow, your garden and the local wildlife will benefit. The flowers are complex specimens of nature and are quite fascinating to look at under a magnifying glass!

Bees make the most delicious honey after collecting the pollen from clover and you can help be a part of that process!

White clover is more attractive to honey bees and bumble bees prefer the red variety.

Clover flowers are also edible and can be added to the salad bowl through the summer months, and infused and drunk as a tisan. The flowers contain proteins and are nutritious but shouldn't be consumed in very large quantities.

Clover is part of the pea family and will set nitrogen in the soil as regular garden pea plants do.

Environment friendly

Clover will encourage bees to your garden as soon as the blooms first appear.

NB: If you're allergic to bee stings, or you have children playing in the garden, simply mow the lawn before the clover flowers. The lawn clover will still be wonderfully soft underfoot.

Keeping lawns weed-free with chemicals accounts for more chemicals being used on the soil than any other part of the garden industry

So there are the alternatives......

1. Beautiful lawn with some work, energy and maybe some unfriendly chemicals

2. Lay back and chill out with the bees!

The choice is yours :-)

Happy Gardening!
