Installing garden fountains isn't something to be taken too lightly, as certain criteria must be met. However, any water feature in your garden will create a tranquil mood and encourage wildlife.
Many styles and designs are available, so you should be able to find one that fits with your garden and your budget.
You will need to buy a pump. Macarthur Water Gardens have some - MacArthur Water Gardens (Click on external pumps) But apart from that, the cost can be kept right down. You could even 'puddle' clay to form a sealed pond. This does take some time but it is possible and worked well for centuries before plastic pond liners were invented! Simply trample and smooth the clay everyday for a while. Keep wet to avoid cracks - and leaks later on. The surface will eventually become 'plastic' and smooth as clay pots do. Don't let the surface dry out at all. - If you have no clay in your garden, the importing costs could be high though.
Still avoiding plastic, you could build a concrete based pond
Look for old or damaged statues in second hand shops, and patch them up. These 'ornaments' can help conceal the pipework and plumbing - necessary to keep your fountain flowing. As well as pond plants, grow colourful flowers or climbing vines to enhance your water feature. Embrace wildlife and have a few fish in the pond. They love the constant flowing water. Take some time when building or plotting your garden fountain or water feature. Check out these ten helpful hints on our Garden Ponds page to give you a head start. *************************
Whatever you do, you won't regret having a water feature in your garden!
